Do they still give out them, whachamacallit, standard business cards or something in Japan all the time? That was one of them long-running stereotypes from like the ’80s. It’s amazing how times have changed. Now such a generalization, however relatively innocuous, is less likely to be propagated. One reason is that an ever interconnected world has made folks more aware of one another’s culture. Another, however, may simply be that this joke has run its course! Along with the practice itself, actually, which spawned the stereotype of the salaryman dutifully bowing and exchanging business cards at every meeting, corporate or personal!
